Doesn't unearned revenue also include selling put options? I've heard that both Microsoft and Intel generate surprisingly large amounts of cash by selling their own puts.

Good Lord!!

Where have you been since August 1995 when msft set up this DEFERRED REVENUE account?!

MSFT has delivered the products but not booked the revenues yet, they defer the rev's and income over several quarters.

Yes I know, this means they have earned over a billion dollars in the past year that they don't show, except in the "CASH" column.

Does this explain the mystifying "60" pe bullshit that you have been reading?

You need to shave and listen to the conf call.

Lots of discussion on unearned revenue. this is a
technical accounting term, based on matching principle.

You'll be more confused when msft starts to issue free
upgrade to w98 coupons...hehehe.

Bearded One, "Unearned revenue is not recognized yet."
X-Ray-Man gave a good explanation on this issue
last quarter. Please go and see it.

IBM, Sun and Intel on NC, may pose a threat to Microsoft's domination of the PC market.
IBM Corp. (IBM) rose 2 3/4 to 117 1/2 amid expectations it will
partner with Intel Corp. (INTC) to develop network computers (NCs)
and related products. The companies would develop NCs based on
Java OS for Business, an operating system co-developed by IBM and
Sun Microsystems Inc. (SUNW), operating on Intel processors. The
combination of IBM, Sun and Intel, may pose a threat to Microsoft's
domination of the PC market.
