Hitesh,

Shame shame shame... Oh... I forgot, Ascend can do know wrong...lest we forget about the troubles we've had here.

Positive article on Ascend and not so much so on Cisco just posted on TheStreet.com. Brought out a key point regarding Cisco, where are new Stratacom products ?

During Cramers chat today he said ASND is turning around and he's bullish on ASND, however he also said MSFT is his number 1 large cap, followed closely by Cisco. As for new WAN products...as an ASND long, do you really want to see CSCO show up again here after what they did in the RAS market to ASND. Well, anyway, on that note...watch June/July my friend.

...trudging along the old stuff to get their foot in the door to sell other products like routers and RAS pitching an End to End solution. It may not be the best in reliability and performance but what the heck who cares ? Its an end to end solution !

You're obviously implying that there are better companies as far as reliability (I'll give you performance). But given that there's been network outages caused by nearly every backbone vendor I can think of, I'm at a loss. Perhaps you could enlighten me...

But looks like the carriers who hold performance and reliability closest to their heart do care. Besides US West which other significant carrier ATM/FR win has Cisco announced in the last 6 months ?

So now you're implying that carriers new of the AT&T outage before it happened and therefore didn't buy Cisco? Nonetheless, as far as ATM WAN switching performance (I thought you were talking routing before) you're saying that they are sub-standard. How so? What study or benchmark are you referring to? Oh, as for wins... I went back at past news and pulled up the following ATM/FR wins. In addition to these there was CableCo wins, IP backbone wins (multiple), enterprise wins (multiple), and yes, RAS wins as well. I know ASND tends to be US biased so you may not realize the size of Westel or Japan Telecom, but these wins are every bit as signficant as US West...

In the end Hitesh, I applaud your championing of the ASND cause, but Cisco is doing fine in getting their share of the wins....and yes, with old, long in the tooth products. How long has it been? Two years with those beasts? Hmmmmmmmmm... seems like something must be coming soon. No?
