I did a quick scan of companies that had analysts that aanounced positions within a few days prior to the companies' earnings announcements. My first observation was that not very many analysts made announcements immediately before earnings. The second thing I noticed was that in 5 of the 6 cases that I found (horribly small sample size!) the analysts were generally correct in how the stocks reacted after earnings. These were ASND, which was upgraded 1 day prior to earnings, EMC, HNC, INTC, and one other one (I forgot). XCIT was rated a near-term neutral and went up significantly since earnings (I think). ATI was also upgraded today -- earnings tomorrow. I think that Gruntal's statement looks good for MRVC's short-term action. If anyone finds other information concerning this supposed trend, please post. Cheers Oh, I found one other one: NETA -- initiated by H&Q as a buy, a couple days before excellent earnings report and a 10% gain in the stock.
