During the 1996 "silly season", the speculation was not front and center news on CNBC. Now, it's even the subject of their theme music. -g-

<< I think they are indirectly promoting to some pretty
novice investors who do not see that trainwreck in the making.

I quite agree. CNBC actually fanfared all these microcompanies' stocks and give them free publicity and airtime. I really don't understand why they invited the CEO of KTEL when they knew their Web site has not been set up yet. Why the hell they put a company which has even had a Web site along with other real Internet companies really beats me. Even if JCPenny, or all other retail stores who have a Web site, is more qualified as an Internet company than KTEL now. In this sense, CNBC is very irresponsible.

They gave a nice, on-air farewell to Suzie Gharib today, even going so far as letting her name her new employer (NBR on PBS). This is in stark contrast to the shroud of secrecy that surrounded John Murphy's departure.

Regarding KTEL, you may be right--I really didn't pay that much attention (perhaps it was my dislike of disco--who knows)--but I do remember the Squawk Box show when they played the music.

But I do remember them reporting on SEVL on Tues and Joe K. said he really didn't want to report it because he knew that people would see the report and run out and get it. But he said that because it was the most active stock on the NASDAQ and it had double or tripled at that point that it was news and they needed to report it. He actually urged people not to try this at home--which I took to mean buying the stock now. The stock went up another couple points within 10 minutes.

Also, later, they did a report showing other stocks from the past that had 90 degree up turns and showed that they eventually went down and suggested that many investors get burned.

But that was SEVL---like I said, I didn't pay that much attention to the KTEL reporting.
