Agreed. The comparison I am talking about didn't include compile/link times, but was a macro level "how much functionality in X number of weeks" comparison where both groups were implementing the same application. Dealing with memory issues was mentioned as the primary thing slowing the C++ types down. (Though it doesn't seem to slow me down much, but then I haven't compared my speed at Java)

I have been a C++ programmer for several years, and have been programming Java for a few months. I'm not sure where I could find an order of magnitude increase in productivity in my development. I guess memory issues could be one.

Where was that study published again? I'd like to take a look at it.
