For one though I think Intel is
now making their own SRAMs for quality and performance reasons. You alluded to this. Which
means they will be getting them at cost, which is probably below NEC's price. Also you know that
AMD needs SRAMS on the motherboard for their L2 cache, yes they're cheaper but add in the cost
nonetheless.

Elmer,

Getting at cost from internal production does not guarantee lowest cost. Intel could have save more money by buying flash chips from AMD. Of course that means giving up the market shares to AMD.

Elmer, <Intel is now making their own SRAMs for quality and performance reasons. You alluded to this.>
Yes, I explicitly "alluded" to the whole 222mm2 special
SRAM they are making for Deschutes, as our Paul
reported friendly. I also explicitly "alluded" that
the cost of silicon area is still the cost no matter
what is imprinted on it. Go figure yourself the total
cost: 130+222+...

<AMD needs SRAMS on the motherboard for their L2 cache>
Small correction: OEM designers need SRAMs, not AMD.
In the meantime, OEMs managed to sell the S7 boards
with 1M of L2 at about HALF the price of PII-LX/BX
boards. Go figure cost again...

BTW, the new contest is coming: Intel is going to
make L2 running at 1X core speed. Probably it will
cost a lot more than 1/2X SRAM. How stupid on
their part again: they will gain even less than
with 100MHz front bus. Much less. He-he.
