It's somewhat meaningless to compare total market value with GDP. It would appear that total domestic assets would be more relevant. And also, a lot of the money invested in the US is foreign investment. One would need a fuller analysis of the foreign investors funds invested in the US and also of US investment abroad. With many of the US trading partners having much more investment assets than in the past, one would expect that the ratio to GDP would keep going higher.
