Of course my quotes were selective. There is a lunatic
fringe to some of the SI threads on both sides. This
makes it amusing to an observer who has no opinion on
the dispute and doesn't care. That is, who cares only
to the extent that it might effects his investment.

I think that I was on solid ground when I wrote that
the citizens- or at least a majority of them have
to agree with the agreement between MSFT, DOJ and the
courts. Consider the breakup of Standard Oil or of ATT.
Both companies were broken up so that the parts were
soon worth more than the original company. Although
some observers have alluded to the breakup and eventual
disappearance of MSFT: it wont happen. MSFT is owned
by too many mutual funds, pensions and individuals.

You are right about the buybacks. They prevent dilution
by employes cashing out. The stock that the MSFT
billionairs have is all locked up. If they cash out
the stock would implode.

I a recital of Bill's virtues [your short list] I am
sure that you will agree that he is not cheap- 2 mm
shares distributed among how many employes. Is it
13000.
