For the benefit of new eyes that may be attracted by the IBD article, here's some thoughts on FIBR.

They are presently shipping a short haul DWDM product. The same type of product tha Cienna, Lucent and many other players are beginning to work on Osicom has today. The product features 16 channels of biderectional communications over a single fiber at distances of approximately 80 Kilometers, slightly longer with a boosting device. This product is borne out of a conglomeration of companies Osicom consolidated and primarily Cray Communications outstanding fiber distributed data products. A 32 channel unit is planned.

They also are shipping the Net+arm chip. A risc procsessor based ethernet communications chip which is finding primary markets in printers. This single chip replaces network cards that printer manufacturers once had to include to make the product network ready. This same chip will find a multitude of uses in any electronic device which needs to communicate over the internet, intranet or LANS. Application are being developed in digital camera's. The details of such are not yet clear but it is my guess that you will be able to download your digital images via phone line from any location worldwide so that you can take more pictures. This negates the need for carrying any storage devices. It also could be used to create a live video feed over the internet.

IQX-200 remote access server. This product competes head to head with the various other makers of such devices, such as Cisco, Ascend, Bay, but was recenetly named the best value, price per port. Targeting the market of smaller ISP's, which is reportedly a very fast growing segment of the internet.

Future integration of Radio Frequency technology, video on demand and sattelite communications into new products, along with more RISC processor based applications. FIBR owns many yet unexploited technologies as a result of aquisitions.
