<<What's driving the DWDM market?

Chadha:

The price barrier has been broken. DWDM has been around for many years, but the
price was so expensive that it was only deployed in long- distance (networks). But
during the last three years or so the prices have been rapidly coming down - to a point
last year where it's not even a choice between installing a DWDM or digging trenches
to lay more fiber. You can roll these products into wherever the choke points are and
immediately you have 16-times improvement. The price is inexpensive compared to
laying fiber. >>

One of the points that I found hardest to articulate was that the
Gigamux is not only the best performer, it is also the best
price-performer, with scaleable installation, so the entry price
is not too high.

The above quote gives the background about why this is important.
The article gives lots of context and big picture stuff.
