Jules a Honeywell Guy - can't blame you for "dissin" IBM

Arrowhead overlooked the 360/20 model 5 which I sold to a S & L in SF and replaced it 2 years later with a S/3 mod 15 with twice the power at 25% increased "rent".

Similar "pricing" productivity was realized with the transition from S/360 to S/370 with VM , but the IBM sales plan never called for reduced rentals .

Jules sorry to remember Honeywell's major marketing thrust was based on their IBM compiler emulators . Honeywell had a "knock-off" philosophy whereas IBM promoted new applications .

Hey Jules we IBM sales types were good guys , it was the IBM "charge backs" permitted in the sales plan which made us inhuman .

On the stock , IBM's CFO annual compensation plan was payable only if he grew IBM's stock at 15 % per year , which it did in the pre-'90s , but it might be back as Mr. Thoman is now at Xerox .

What brought IBM to its knees was the consent decree which valued "administration" over sales . The consent decree is gone and is why you see IBM reaching out to INTC, MSFT and AAPL etc.

There is room for everybody and it avoids future consent decrees . MSFT is still learning .

Regards,
Jim K.

Jules starship Blue's RS/6000 SP welcomes PCI boards "on board"

IBM's ecumenical spirit opens the RS/6000 to look like a intergalactic cafe with Klingon 32 bit processors mixed with INTC PCI slots for a high powered , economical server for integrators .

" Mark Webb, ... at CTS Inc., a systems integrator in Roswell, Ga., that sells SP machines, says one of the hidden gems of the SP rollout is PCI support . PCI adapters cost a lot less," he said.

Notice also JAVA has been improved within the RS/6000's resident AIX .
