Why would the Sun/IBM consortium to develop an operating system be different than the Apple/IBM consortium to develop an operating system?

Darrell,

IBM's O/S2 works quite well. Many prefer it to WindowsXX. IBM has a product, talent, money, captive market,.....

Microsoft only has superior marketing and Steve Ballmer.

INTC & IBM collaborate on JavaOS thin clients. INTC will provide CPU for it.

what about Sun/IBM consortium to develop operating system? several corps have committed to the product.

IBM and APPLE were going to do OpenDoc, Taligent, CHRP, PowerPC and you can probably name a few others. Many people committed to PowerPC and CHRP and where are they today.
