Dear Calvin - I do remember about your getting out and your [both stated and implied] emotional involvements with the co. While I can't imagine your situation, I can certainly find myself in similar situations time and again. So I ve no problem whatsoever with that, but I don't think that should stop us from discussing the possible operational [in]efficiency in a rational manner.

First, the immediate topic of discussion is fab capacities and inventory buildup. You seem to say that CRUS should have relocated [some of] its productions to Cirent simply because it is a use-it-or-lose-it deal. Ok, good argument. A possible counterpoint [not that I know the internal mechanics to say it is so] is similar constraints are placed on the asian counterparts. If that is the case and if all things [such as yields] being equal, CRUS probably will have to weigh between other factors like labor cost and retooling cost. Either way, somewhere would have to be left idle.

While the mkt seems to agree with you, but I really don't understand why you would say CRUS is bleeding if it keeps beating the street for the last 3 Qs. I mean, if you don't like the guy, ok - I share your anguish. But we also need to call a spade a spade. Remember you have also said that you heard CRUS wouldn't be able to meet the earning expectations. I mean, while your criticism against a few individuals are probably valid, a lot of other people, many of them your friends, still work at the co. I don't mean to say you ve any bad intent for them, but I think these workerbees deserve recognition of a daunting task amid a sector slowdown. Look at other cos like ESST, OAKT and VLSI. They couldn't even meet the street estimate. So, am I saying you should not be critical of Messr Hackworth who may indeed be a cause of pain to many people? No, not at all. On the contrary, I always like an even thread with supporters and distractors [especially if they are knowledgeable;] however, one is not doing oneself justice for being blinded by one's emotion without any relevant ground. Sure, in the ideal world, we would like maximum utilization at the best cost-benefit yields, but I don't think the chip sector is ideal at the present time.

Just my 2c <G>
