I was reading the latest issue of EE Times last night, and several articles forecast a gloomy few years for the semi-equips. Intel has said that it will not begin upgrading to 300mm until it starts manufacturing on .13 micron, and that will be 2-2 1/2 years from now. The good news is that when they do upgrade a line to 300mm, they will have to do so for -all- of their process equipment on that line. They plan on running several process sizes in tandem for a few years as well.
