Mary,
What needs to be investigated is what the brokerage house is buying or selling for their own account prior to these public announcements of downgrade, upgrade. The reality is that this has been going on since these brokers were peddling stocks under an olive tree at Wall and Broad Street. There have been complaints but these are powerful companies with tons of lawyers on staff. Any attempt to investigate is met with a fierce barrage of Lawyer stuff. Maybe even threats to stop campaign contributions.
In the long run, everything should even out. Unfortunately, sometimes it doesn't. Intel is too widely known and held not to be valued on it's true merits.
Jim

Mary, Re: >"However, it really can't be up to the small investors to launch a complaint. If Intel doesn't say anything about this and from their silence we have to assume they somehow agree with Tom Kurlak or Merrill. Are they, Intel, trying to send a message to the small investor? I hope not.<"

Intel reiterated their positive 2nd half statement at analyst meeting among other positive forwarding looking views. I don't think Intel should play TK's game of trying to hit him or ML back at every negative statement they attempt. And they sure shouldn't get involved in stock manipulation or public analytical opinion polling.

The small investor should realize Intel has the option to purchase up to $10billion of it's own shares no matter how many investors, traders or fund managers ML, TK try to influence there is always a bigger buyer here.
