That non existent trade at 23 never happened. It was a misprint
that was incorrectly entered into the system by a market maker.
He happened to mistakenly enter 23 when he apparently meant to
enter 25. The fact he entered 23 has nothing to do with reality.
If he had entered 123 it would not mean the stock rallied
to 123 for one print then fell back to 25 on the next print.
Quote services that caught up with the misprint deleted it
from the daily range since it never happened. Misprints happen
all the time and are not that unusual. However they have no
meaning whatsoever since they represents prices than never
happened during that trading day. UTEK low for day was about 24
before shares rallied to close at 24 5/8 bid. This is same
closing bid as on April 20 so nobody cared about the two cents.
Nobody is buying UTEK for current earnings, only for the future.

I2: I think don hits a home run with his answer re the trade.

I agree with him also that the investor base who is long UTEK is betting on the future. Unfortunately, the cc suggests to me that in this time of poor visibility the future of UTEK has been pushed out. It is absolutely amazing how UTEK's outlook going forward has deteriorated so quickly since last fall. The silver lining is that its prospects can turn to favorable just as quickly.

So I would say UTEK is trading on hope to a large extent: a hope for the future for its leading edge products; a hope for an industry turnaround in dd and semi; and a hope for good execution on the part of management. Like David (thanks for the fine summary), I am particularly troubled by Verdant's delay.

UTEK is also trading on short support technically. I am real interested to see the short interest figures for the short to intermediate term. However, they will not tell the entire story because they only cover up and until April 15. I would bet that there was some good short covering going on between that date and earnings.
