Hi, Donald,

You might have not seen my earlier post, but in short I was wondering whether "physical things" become idols or gods to us if we let them.

One thing I do agree with Emile on is that MUCH under the old law were "shadows" of things to come, and if those things are fulfilled by Christ, we should be careful of continued practice.

Having said that, Paul warned against eating meat offered to idols, not that the idol was anything but that the conscience of some would be offended.

I am not a religious expert, and cant quote scripture like most on this thread can. What I do know of Christianity and Judiasim is that they both glorify their own God's, each in their own, beautiful way.

Emile's contention is that you cant not believe Jesus is the Messaih
without disrespecting Jesus. I and many others disagree. It is possible to both disbelieve and respect. It is not a 100% all or nothing proposition IMO. I can either believe or disbelieve that jesus is the Messiah, but still respect the teachings for the Love and the compassion that they engender. It is very hard for anyone to use religion as an attack vehicle or to persue goals of hatred without being exposed. The reason is that most people inherently believe that God should and does embody only the highest principles. The underpinnings of the highest principal are love and compassion. When you get away from that, you get away from the highest principals and people eventually uncover lesser motivations.
