Windseye-- I would like to think their are ethics involved here but with CPQ management stuffing the channel as bad as they did while selling 120 million in stock at the same time ---knowing payback would come in the first and second qtr ?
That is in the past ---as a shareholder DEC'S PALMER is basically giving DEC to CPQ for free ---if CPQ does not screw up the merger this will a provide a good foundation for the future . Some comments
DEC on hand cash --- 2.3 billion on hand
DEC settlement with INTEL -- 700 million in cash
CPQ 7. billion cash on hand

Have to leave -- take a boy to basketball -will follow up on my thought's later

BEST WISHES
BILL

Windseye. Re: "Now, all of a sudden, the postponement of merger/buyout talks between DEC and CPQ of last year makes sense." I think you're right, and that this was part of the planning.

My feeling is that CPQ never wanted the Alpha, but not due to the Intel connection. Remember, Mason came from Digital. He knew what a cash drain the foundry was. So they wanted Digital to get rid of it before they would buy. That also explains Palmer's weird tactics (the suit etc.) He couldn't just call Andy on the phone; he might say "No thanx" Palmer wanted to create a situation where Andy couldn't say no. Hence the suit.

JMHO. I'm sure there are many others.
