The key to CUBE's future is partnering with related OEMs in the various industries (that John had pointed out). Choosing the right ones with favorable markets is critical. The headend business of Divi will have to have the winning cable partners. The slow adoption of DVD, which will come about, will need the customers that will win out in the DVD player arena. Video card OEMs are forming partnerships with DVD-ROM companies and CUBE to come up with PC packages (Encore, Diamond, Intel's AGP). Satellite companies (TV and otherwise) are partnering with CUBE for encoders and decoders for their services. Digital TV companies will need decoders. DVD-RAM is a growing industry that will need CUBE. The PC/Laptop OEMs are going to be critical for mass decoder sales with their DVD-ROM systems (Compaq, Toshiba, Dell, Gateway). Keeping in good spirits with Microsoft for compatibility issues is always good. TV Broadcasters (NAB) are going to be a revenue stream source. And what about all those set-top boxes that are going to be needed.

To wrap up this readers digest version of the many posts that were issued on this thread, I'd say that CUBE's in a great position for the near and long term future, when it becomes an old/mature dog.

<<They don't need ESST's VCD business.>> That's another reason. I'm not an expert here, but they are both US companies, so I think the antitrust laws apply even though the chips are used in another country. But as John Rieman says, why buy the business when it will be yours for free pretty soon? Besides, VCD is a diminishing revenue source as teh market becomes saturated and consumers migrate to DVD. It may be around for a while longer, but it won't be a huge part of CUBE's bottom line.

Well hello David. Sillyness. Hmmm, all you cubers like to "Dance" that's ok, making money is fun(when the trading is going your way)...too bad there isn't a guarantee for the future (as many ESST holders have learned, myself included).

I'll do somehting that your beloved David hasn't been able to do. I'll give the thread a thought, a thought that means something.

ESST is sitting on alot of video chips.
ESST needs to unload them at current/less than current market prices.
CUBE's margins/market share could suffer as a result.

Just a thought. Despite the childish postings and digs from David all over SI, my post here is simply a thought that Cuber's may want to think about. I wish I had a crytal ball to know for sure...I do not.

3 months can change alot of things...6 months can change even more. Who knows how this industry will shakeout, it's constantly mutating.

I wish you all the best of luck in your holdings (I actually want the entire sector to flourish:):):)

Rich

David:

I think that it must be stated for those who may not have followed the flame war last year that your predictions to date have been on target regarding the overall business models and executions of both ESST and CUBE.
It has certainly been a question of maintaining margins, quality of product, business foresight in acquisitions, and overall hard work that has to date steered CUBE, the total company, through some bare knuckled business brawls with ESST.
Congratulations, you called it. No need to dance.
