Hello Gregor,

I really liked your take on discussing doctrine. This is SUCH A BIG PROBLEM amongst Christians everywhere, and you really expressed my viewpoint into words eloquently. I had to send a copy of your message to my brother.

My brother is also in college, Freshman at University of Iowa, and he's having problems finding a church home. He's joined the Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. There are many different denominations and views amongst the varied members of his group there. He is very passionate about the Truth and will express his views if he thinks the Truth is not being heard. The group is currently discussing Jesus' death and whether He had a choice to die or not. The group continually says that Jesus had the choice, but my brother argues that Jesus was God and therefore didn't really have the choice as Jesus would have had to disobey the character of God by choosing not to go through with God's will. It's one of those issues to me that doesn't affect my life very much and therefore I would try not to discuss it.

Anyways, I hope that your explanation will help my brother to pick and choose his battles. I just wanted to thank you.

God's love,

Grant

Gregor and all,

Thank you for your prayers. One of my very first prayers I prayed after becoming a Christian was, "Father, help me to be a God-pleaser and not a man pleaser. Help me to strip myself of all opinions and philosophes that I may know and do your will." It is still the prayer of my heart, but I have not arrived. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.
The problem with a "living sacrifice" is that it keeps sqirming off the altar. Will the sqiriming stop when we learn to be "crucified with Christ" and to live in the newness of a crucified life?

I lust for the paryers of righteous men.

I have another very special prayer request. My wife and I have been witnessing to my precious Jewish mother-in-law for many years with no apparent success. A few years back my mother-in-law and I were alone in the living room after Sunday diner and talking about Jesus and Judaism. She shared with me why she could never consider becoming a Christian.
Many years ago, she is 81, her father made her promise to never to abandon Judaism since she was the eldest of his four female children. He told her that she must be the one to carry the tradition. She told me that she could never break that promise to her father. She feels that if she even seriously considers Christ as the Messiah that she is betraying her father.
Anyway, I need your prayers desparetely for her salvation. I also ask you to pary that if I have or my wife have been an obstacle to her salvation, for God to erase the damage we have caused and to provide us with what is needed for her salvation. Please include my daughter-in-law Charlotte and her daughter also. Charlotte is Jewish but her daughter Amelia attends both Temple and Church. Amelia has Christians friends who take her to Church and she has stated to me more than once that she believes in Jesus. I know this is complicated, but it is part of my reality. Some will not be saved, but only God knows. Whatever is lacking in us in this situation may be provided by your prayers.

Thanks again,
Emile
