<<<<I know you occasionally indulge in split-plays and as such can you tell us what your strategy is? Do you subscribe to Right Line Split Report or something >>>>
1. A short time ago Three referred me to the Right line report,I
have not used it yet but it looks like an excellent way to
to begin and it will keep reminding a person of the opportunities.
2. As with any "system" there is much to learn from mistakes, so it is a matter of learning without getting burned too bad.
It is difficult in a booming market to find the reason for a failure but the best opportunities seem to be as follows.
A. Buy the call or stock at the first sign of a split, the
first half hour after you read about it( but check the company
out with research first). Use serendipity on stocks you know ,
like Dell, cpq, msft, yhoo.
Of these, for example YHOO is getting close to a split based on price, and IMO they want a lot of stock on the market, and I read one mention of a split by an analyst yesterday. I may soon
buy a few calls when it looks right.
And by now you know when Dell will split (hehehe)
B. Fast splits that occur in weeks ( like Dell, Bcom,
etc seem to do much better than those announced two+ months in advance( wla, ci, asmlf, etc)
C. The company should have reasonable distribution,
like more than say 50,000 shares traded per day
This URL gives the stock split schedule, and also lists the stocks that declared splits today

This URL is what I monitor each day when trying to get the earliest news on splits.....
cbs.marketwatch.com

An Example:( Here is one I tried to catch but failed)

>>>Apr. 22, 1998, Walt Disney Co. (NYSE:DIS - news) said its board declared a three-for-one split on common, subject to stockholder approval of an increase in authorized common to 3.6 billion
shares from 1.2 billion. DIS said it currently has about 680,000,000 shares outstanding. In addition, DIS said the board increased the company's share repurchase authorization to
133,300,000 shares of common stock pre-split or 400,000,000 shares post-split.>>>

Enough said, I may not have answered your questions, please E--mail me if you have more. I keep in touch with several others
who works splits.
