CUBE near its 52 week low? You'd better look again.

It's right in the middle of the 52 week range at 24.5, and moving up for the last two weeks.

CUBE needed to prove it could follow up announcements with earnings before the market gained confidence in it again. I think Innovacom will have to actually release its chip and follow up with earnings before the market will trust it again.

"If you really think CUBE and IBM can supply the whole market themselves you need to have your head examined."

Actually, CUBE and IBM are not the only ones making (or planning to make) a single-chip MPEG-2 encoder. Sony will probably have a good one. NEC and Matsushita as well. And Philips has that low-cost encoder which does the job for simpler MPEG-2 encoding. Depending on the price/performance requirements, one of these chips will be most applicable.

When these chips are all sampling we'll find out who has the best price/performance. The MPEG-2 encoding market will be huge. On that we agree. But at this time, I think it's an act of faith to believe there will be a decent Innovacom entry. Faith is something I'm willing to bestow on companies with proven track records. Perhaps your faith will be justified ... we'll see within the next year.
