That was a really lovely post, jhild. I gues what keeps us going as parents is the hope that some of this does come back at some point---and hopefully the good stuff--(not the time like last week that I got in the Grand Prix with some teenager through the shopping center parking lot, or the time CW slammed his door in my face and I screamed, "You little SOB, don't you ever slam a door in my face again!"--no-those times I hope fade into some forgotten, dusty corner of their memories)

Speaking of what marriage is about--- One of my friends was diagnosed with lymphoma this past Monday. (reason I haven't been around much) They won't know the extent until next week when all the tests are in and so this week is filled with scans and dyes and fear. They have two boys the same ages as ours and they are a close-knit and wonderful family. I was there on Wed. and talked for a while with the husband. What marriage and love is really about was right there : his total concern for her and what she is enduring, not his own pain and terror, which was palpable, but the helpless hurt he was feeling for her when he spoke of the tests and the exhaustion and the pain. He only broke down when he spoke of her dread of losing her hair, her discomfort during the two hour scan only a day after her surgery, her courage as she looks toward the next six months.
I thought he was beautiful--this big, outspoken man, a real Texan, who coaches his boys' teams, and hunts and skis with them, sitting there expressing all that love so openly.
Anyway--marriage is a lot of things. And this week reminded me of some of the important stuff.
