<Funny, the only optimisitc note was regarding DLTs. >

I thought there were many points of optomisim. They reduced inventory to 3 weeks internal and 5 weeks in the channel. They sold off a lot of old stock and they've now got Viking II and Atlas II shipping in volume. Dell and HP along with 5 other NT server companies are using Viking II. High end sales up 25% for the quarter. They achieved a better inventory turn rate going from 13 to 14. They've also never had more cash and credit available to them with over 1 billion dollars. They are shipping to all top ten PC vendors with 66% of revenue coming from OEM.

They've shipped 1 million DLT units and 10 million cartridges. They are market share leader with 26%. They have a good plan going forward with Super DLT that also supports backward capability. They have about 9 weeks inventory in the channel and hope to see 4 to 6 weeks in June.

While they aren't prepared to say problems with pricing and capacity are over, they are saying they've forcasted for the worst and they see next quarter flat with September probably starting a recovery. Should volumes pick up, they'll probably beat these numbers.

I found the discussion of coming Super DLT very interesting. They expect a new generation Bigfoot in second half and a 3 gig platter in a few months. They say the new Fireball is turning out to be one of the highest quality products they've ever made and plaform extendability will shorten upgrade cycles and qualification time.

That's not saying there aren't problems, but one can't say there wasn't much to be optomistic.

Regards,

Mark
