Here's an interesting little snippet:

Gateway 2000 has lopped off the 2000 part, and is now going to just be called Gateway... and is going to be added to the S&P 500 after Friday's trading. I've seen the phenomenon (E, that was for you) before, and it causes a rush of purchases into the issue because the massive index funds need to allocate capital to the new stock to balance their portfolio weighting.

An interesting play for the short term trader...
