"Martin Reynolds, a market analyst with Dataquest, says mail-order PC companies have a good shot at a share of the estimated $25 billion peripheral market, adding that the bulk of peripheral buying still occurs in stores.

"ÿ'If you're Gateway, Dell, or Micron, offering peripherals is a good way to pick up money, but the CDW people are very aggressive, and their whole model is based on volume and cut-rate pricing that Gateway and Dell can't match,' Reynolds says. '[PC manufacturers] are just looking for anything that can grow their business, and they're using peripherals as leverage to increase the average dollars per buyer at the point of sale.'ÿ"-PC Week, April 1998
