LT,

You are surely correct here! Some other investor said just that . Something like "Buy when others are 'selling' and Sell when others are 'buying'"

That is what I meant by 'when and why'. I try to do the same thing that you do, but I really have to limit myself to industries that I really 'know' something about, and since I spent my working career in computers and telecommunications, I don't have the wide expertise that some of the other investors have on the thread. For instance I think that oil has a great potential, but I wouldn't be able to read between the lines to make it work. I do go 'out on a limb' sometimes and buy a stock that is 'recommended' by an SI contributor, and sometimes I do well, sometimes not.

In one of Peter Lynch's books, he recommends that you invest only in industries that you know something about.

In re-reading your post about the NIKKEI and 1989, the purchase might have been OK, the HOLD was in ERROR. Take the 'little' loss and wait for a better day.

Regards,

Ken
