Kirk;

Great letter to Ms. Boxer, and a very telling response. My son had to pay over $900 in federal and state taxes this year, and he is only 13 years old. That was money he could have used for college, but the government "needed" it more. How does the present tax code justify that. Was that his "fair share"? No, Ms. Boxer, we aren't rich. That old "take from the rich and give to the poor" rhetoric really plays well to the masses and keeps idiots like her in office.

Bob's advice on tax efficient funds really hit home this year. It's probably too late to switch his funds now, because he'll have to pay cap. gains taxes on the sale and lose more college money.

Chuck

Kirk, great response to Ms. Boxer. I have never understood why politicians spend most of their time trying to "more equalize a past inequity" or "undo a past wrong" when often they were responsible for the past wrong in the first place. Moreover, they won't really fix the problem, only establish another problem that needs yet another fix that only they can do! Sheer lunacy.

Why don't they just fix the problem, once and for all, without regard to who has been harmed in the past, present, or future? Of course, we all know the answer to that, because a true fix would put armies of lawyers, accountants, and politicians out of work forever. What a shame.

Kirk:re:<"Senator Boxer, You make one of the most idiotic arguments I have ever heard!">

While the points you made in your response to Senator Boxer's letter to you regarding the "flat tax" were right on target, what will you do if she is angered by your emotional first sentence and uses her connections at the IRS to flag your tax return for an annual comprehensive "cash audit" (the equivalent of wearing a hair shirt) from this point forward ?
Good luck in your battle. A flat tax would certainly be much more fair than the present system. Maybe if Steve Forbes makes it to the White House in Year 2000, there's a chance we'd get it.
