Luc, I think you're wrong here. For simplicity, suppose that the equity market consisted of a single company. All other things being equal any net flow into the stock of this company will raise the total equity. It is no different in the broader market.

LT,

Not only have you hedged your NE; you've also hedged your bear prediction. Nicely done. You're covered!

Money is coming in at an increasing rate, Lucretius. Although those of us into the investment world may think 403/401's are being used all over the place, the fact of the matter is that there is a huge pool of people out there who haven't gotten the clue yet. The financial planners are combing the streets for these folks and getting them enrolled in mindless payroll deduction plans. This is were your money is coming from...and it will not slow/remain the same for a very long time. This is nothing new since I believe the retirement funds have been fueling this market for quite some time now.

LT, I disagree with your prescription for higher market -- ... for this mkt to continue higher, money flow coming in must INCREASE, not just stay steady. To move a mkt higher you need an incremental increase in money flow coming in. Steady money flow will take the mkt dwn. ... Money flow into market has to merely EQUAL money flow out of the market to maintain equilibrium and a reasonably stable marketplace. "Steady money flow" into the market will NOT "take the market down", IMO. Moreover, all indications are that more money is coming into the market than exiting the market, and this situation is likely to continue. Tulvio
