Nice article in Financial Times about LucasVarity development. LV has developed an electric power-steering mechanism that isn't reliant on hydraulics and the drain that the pressure pump makes on the engine. The net result is a performance and weight savings--both important factors towards the development of electric cars.

Someone on the Yahoo! thread pointed this article out. But I believe they came to the wrong conclusion when they said that the new system (EPas) would increase the need for a more powerful alternator. I think this system reduces the electrical usage.
