Say goodbye to the hand-held PC The smallest may just be too small

April 23 - "Bigger is better" is not an axiom that usually applies to
the mobile electronics market. But hand-helds, such as Hewlett-Packard
Co.'s LX line, may be in danger of being phased out in favor of bigger
machines.

"THOSE [HAND-HELD PCS] ARE eventually going to be squeezed out of the
market," said Mike McGuire, director of mobile product at market
researcher Dataquest. The problems with hand-helds are plentiful: The
keyboards are too small to use, screen resolution is low, and there
are few other features. Instead, explained McGuire, users will either
use a palm-sized PC, such as 3Com Corp.'s Palm III, or a companion
notebook that sports the Windows CE operating system - or both.

You ain't seen nut'n yet. Count the posters today. I plan to be
traveling to the northcountry early Wednesday morning. I suspect
that when I get there I will have only a post or two to read.
