Some of what you say is true.. but most things you're taking
for granted. Do you really think that Microsoft is going
to call/write/email EVERY customer that has ever purchased
ANY software title from them that might be affected by the
year 2000? What about people that have never registered
with the manufacturer? You could say that with all the
advertising that EVERYONE will surely know. Advertising
is NOT going to make everyone aware. There are still a ton
of people that don't have internet access. Those that do
probably don't even know how to download and install a patch.
Most people still aren't using an ANTI-VIRUS product and if
they are its over 6months old and outdated but they think
that it'll be good forever. Can't tell you how many people
EVEN now as they read this have a SURGE PROTECTOR to protect
their $$$$$$$$ that they spent on their computer and they
don't even know enough to have a surge protector with a
MODEM/PHONE line connection. Hmmmm. Let's see every cable
protected on your computer except the one that goes from
the jack in the wall to your modem. Forget something???
Phone lines can take a power hit too and damage the modem?
It's my business to talk to EVERYDAY people about their
computers. I'd say 7 out of 10 people come mid to end
of next year STILL won't have a clue about what to do about
this whole year 2000 thing. DONT expect a flood of info
flowing from the companies to the marketplace to inform
people. IT'll be more like... come and get it. This CSHK
product will AID and assist people in finding the software
that needs correction and guide them to where they need to
go. And again, I believe that some patches will be included
ON the CSHK product. That is my understanding of it. I still
find people every week that complain that there system is
slow and they're running win95 with 4mb of ram or they are
getting "out of memory" errors and think that they don't
have enough memory for a certain program when more likely
it's a matter of memory MANAGEMENT (conventional memory issues
associated w/ DOS... remember that)...

People WILL ALWAYS need their hands held with their software/hardware
and to think otherwise is SILLY. Most people don't even know
how to partition and format a drive or to restore their
boot sector (SYS C: command) I really don't think that in less
than 2 years that the general consumer public will all of
a sudden be so familiar with their PC's that they'll be able
to easily identify EVERY software application in their PC
that needs a year2000 patch and/or that EVERY manufacturer
of software from the beginning of DOS to current day will be
hiring detective to seek out and find every individual out
there that needs their patches. No sir, people will want and
aggressively seek some help in this area. Especially if the
program like CSHK's will fully test their PC within a matter
of a few mins and report back every application that will need
a fix. I'd pay $75 or so to get that answer and I have
a whole customer base of people that would as well and they
know ALOT less about PC's than I do therefore they'll need/want
it MORE!
