It is likely that visx and beam conspired to fix PPP prices. PPP as we all know will go away. The question is who will benefit and who will get hurt.Visx and beam will be living under a cloud. Patent licencing should be fought out amongst the sellers of product.price fixing cannot be the answer.the lvc centers cos.will be beneficiaries.Royalties will likely be buried in the deals with the sellers of lasers.

yosid,

I agree the manufacturers has the right to recoup all costs plus profit and future R&D expenses in price of the product. If VISX and Summit Tech. have not prorated these costs in the their equipment sales and lease prices to the LVC users, then they are not practicing good business policy or business sense. The only reason they are getting away with this "double dipping" fee is the lack of competition and the time remaining in their patent rights.

It is obvious that the Government considers these fees exorbitant or they would not have a case for stopping this practice. I think that free enterprise has every right to legitimate profits, but I draw the line at "price gouging".
