Dragonfly,

I got all my numbers form 10 K per GSTRF and IRIDF. You keep pointing fingers saying this and that. I told everyone here I do not want to convince you any more. I did that. Again I thought it over and posted my thought again last night about the "real cost" of IRIDF and the possibility of cost overrun on GSTRF if you did read it. I directed my questions to Valueman, Bill H. and Maurice not you. I asked for comments. Then you gave those lines of "New Math". You are the one wants to turn it into personal.

As for the GSTRF's $2.7 billion project as of 12/31/97, that does include Space segments and ground segments (gateways, GOCC, and SOCC). If you care to go back to read GSTRF's 10 K again or go back to GSTRF thread's post #967, you understand what I am talking about. Here is some portion of it:

Globalstar expects the total ground segment expenditure to be approximately $710 million, net of such deferrals, through the In-Service Date.

In service date means the estimate date of G* system launch. You told us before about 600 million gateway costs to be excluded from $2.7 billion is totally false.

As for including all costs to calculate the total system costs, each gateway owner is going to invest $37 million to buy its gateways as China Telcomm just did. Once G* system is up and running, G* needs to recover $2.7 billion costs and a gateway owner, say China Telcom, needs to recover its costs of $37 million investment. Do you really think that is such a big deal to recover $37 million than recovering $2.7 billion?

The above anlysis excludes all day-day operation costs. According to IRIDF's 10 K figure, day to day operation costs was budgeted at $284 million (no.3 item from IRIDF and MOT's contract if you remember correctly) for 5 years. I do not think GSTRF's two GOCC and SOCC will require any more or any less than IRIDF's operating costs figure. As for a gateway owner's operating cost, it will be absorbed by a gateway owner anyway.

Further, please go back and check #2 item between IRIDF and MOT's contract, it stated MOT needed $2.88 billion to build gateway hardwares and softwares. On G* side, it is 710 million as state above build by QCOM. Spcae segments - I* 3.45 billion vs. G* $1.9 billion (15.6 million * 48 (sats costs) + 700 million (sats subcontracts cost) + 459 million (launch plus insurance costs))

G* system cost is 710 million + 1.9 billion = 2.7 billion

Brian H.
