The likelyhood of Ultratech getting into the Deep UV market is
unlikely unless things have dramatically changed since I last
spoke with the company. Ultratech had been looking at below
I-line lens for years. However, due the difficulty in making
1X reticles and the catadioptic design of the lens they made
the correct marketing decsion to leverage their high d.o.f and
relatively inexpensive Stepper into a Mix&Match environment and
Thick Resist applications. Ultratech is well positioned and
better off than having to deal with the intense Tech Support
involved with nanometer geometries. The new aquistion brings
them into the "High End" market and serves to diversify the
company. All and all I thing this is a very good long term
play.
