Monty; The DJI index divisor is 3.874953...OPPS I just found a discrepancy beteen the closing price and the sum of the changes 3.986529 is what they closed the index as..any way call it 4 if you need a fast ball park figure..any issue in it moves the index by the above multiplier; HWP went up 8 today so she helped out the Dow almost 32 pts. That discrency I don't got time for right now either one share didn't get posted right or supthin..it only amounts to about $2 on the dow..or 50cent wasn't posted right amoung the issues. ----------------- RE > It was an excerpt from a Reuters news item on YHOO and they did say that "the DOW would be AT LEAST 90 LOWER" if not for HWP being up over five at the time. << No miss understanding on my part , just didn't want someone to think I was that dumb <G> the guy maybe meant to just say it would have been down 90 if not for HWP.. BUT Being it came from "Reuters" man they shoot from the hip and mess up all the time. I've cautioned people a lot about anything a Journalist writes.. while they may say it were it makes sense to you..don't take it for granted to be true, most of them don't know jack about how the market works, they rush to meet deadlines , and say things backwards about as much forward..that's two today ( out of two ) that Reuters got wrong. I see mess ups on CNBC all the time..they are paid actors and trained to act like they know what they are talking about. Most any of them can spell better than me but are nit wits when it comes to actually thinking. They just got a bag of journalistic tools and tricks , and one liners, and canned spam.. but they got no idea of what's really going on. Jim
