You are not alone. The cost structures are such that you either

1) Trade everyday with proper tools

2) Trade on occasion with a serious handicap

3) Invest longer term

The deck seems to be stacked against the working guy. Someone is missing out on a stream of revenue as there are a lot of working guys.

How rigid are the structures? Are the fee structures based on deep seeded market fee structures? Is it intentionally structured to keep the casual investor away from trading? Protectionism? Lack of vision?

If I can make use of real time quotes..level two with all the bells and whistles one day a month why should I have to pay 20 times what it is worth? Vegas would not make any money if you had to rent a room for a month to play for a day.

Spots,

You might want to check out MB Lite @ $115/mo, which MB Trading just added to their web site. There is no charge over 20 tickets a month, which is only 10 in & out trades.

mbtrading.com

Same order entry capabilities with real time quotes, but no level II, no time and sales, and no charting.

However, I believe that you can still enter you orders at the bid/ask or 1/16 above into ARCA and let it work your orders for you. (It acts like an intelligent agent checking the various ECN's (itself, ISLAND, SELECTNET, etc) to see if it can get you a fill.)

Just a thought.

John

PS - Those who would rather have a broker work the order for them for price improvement, should check out

or Steve's posts on the 'From the Trading Desk' thread.
