Bucky89,

While I agree with you that ATM to the desktop is dead for the time being, I do not believe that it is dead for good. I see in the not too distant future where the telephone handset will be integrated into the computer. Particularly in the office environment. As more and more high-density, time-sensitive applications are developed for the work place this market will take off. In spite of what some people believe ATM to the desktop will become real. Maybe not as fast as some people originally thought, but it is coming.

I have seen a few trial QoS uses of Gigabit Ethernet in support of multimedia applications and I am not a believer. If you use processors that have the capability to support ATM to the desktop there really isn't a viable alternative out there in the foreseeable future in my opinion.

Cheers,

Steve
