I think Ziva may be inside IBM Aptivas... The CUBE-Quadrant alliance: March, 1997 qi.com DVD Leaders Collaborate to Bring Innovative Navigation Solution to ZiVA Platform MILPITAS, Calif.-- March 25, 1997--C-Cube Microsystems Inc. (NASDAQ:CUBE). the leader integrated digital video solutions, today announced that it has entered into a development partnership with Quadrant International (QI), the technology leader in decoding and navigation solutions for the digital video disk (DVD) market. Through this partnering, QI's innovative, consumer-oriented DVD technology will be ported to C-Cube's highly integrated ZiVA DVD decoder family to provide one of the most comprehensive DVD system solutions for today's PC market. This alliance is supported by the availability of QI's complete manufacturing kit for PCI-base playback boards which are based on C-Cube's recently-announced ZiVA family of DVD decoders. This CUBE/DELL announcement shows CUBE is inside, via Quardant: zdnet.com Dell Dimension XPS D300-DVD The DVD Setup The Dimension's DVD subsystem starts with a Hitachi GD-2000 DVD-ROM drive. This drive is a second-generation model, which means that-unlike with first-generation drives-you'll be able to read all CD-ROM formats, including CD-Recordable disks. The drive spins DVD disks at 2X speeds, while standard CDs operate at 8X/20X variable speeds. For decoding MPEG-2 and AC3 (Dolby Digital audio) signals, the Dimension uses a Quadrant International CineMaster C-1.2D card, a PCI board that talks to the machine's graphics accelerator card via a pass-through cable. Full-screen, 30-fps MPEG-2 video decoding and AC3 audio decoding are both handled by C-Cube Microsystems' single-chip ZiVA DS-C decoder. The ZiVA chip is compatible with all DVD standards, and offers NTSC/PAL DVD video decoding, CD-ROM data decoding, as well as full VideoCD 2.0 compatibility.I think its a good bet then, that CUBE is inside these Aptivas thru. Quadrant. qi.com QI Named First DVD Board Technology Provider To Leading American PC Maker CineMasterTM Decoder Board To Ship On Summer Production Units Malvern, PA -- June 19, 1997 -- Fast moving Quadrant International (QI) has won another first for its industry leading convergence technologies. A major, American-based "top-five" PC maker has signed an agreement to license QI's CineMaster DVD decoding technology for installation on summer production units, making QI the first third party DVD technology provider for this manufacturer. The deal advances QI's position as the preeminent supplier of DVD and convergence technology solutions to the PC marketplace and also confirms that PC makers -- even the largest and most well-known -- stand ready to engage third party suppliers for expertise and technologies that enable DVD capability. "This agreement is a major step forward," said QI Chief Technology Officer Mike Harris. "The commitment of a top PC maker to purchase our DVD decoding capability means the industry knows our solutions aren't blue sky, but big blue." According to the terms of the deal, QI will provide the PC maker with the QI CineMasterTM DVD decoding board via an arrangement with a strategic manufacturing partner. [C-CUBE PERHAPS????] The boards will be installed on the PC maker's premier desktop system. QI-equipped systems are scheduled to begin shipment in mid-June, 1997. "The timing is especially apt," remarked CineMasterTM Strategic Marketing Manager Michael Marks. "Volume production of CineMasterTM began just over a month ago and already we have signed a major customer. This is real proof that OEMs are looking for a solution that is ready to ship today." The PC maker that selected QI was IBM, who chose CineMasterTM for DVD decoding technology on upcoming shipments of its Aptiva desktop PC systems. In its June 2, 1997 announcement of Aptiva's CineMasterTM-enabled DVD capability, IBM said consumers will "experience intense sound and images on screen." With CineMasterTM, Aptivas will have full DVD playback capability enhanced with outstanding MPEG-2 video and Dolby Digital audio functionality, backward compatibility with older MPEG-1 video, and full support of DVD-ROM features such as multi-language subtitles, parental control and advanced on-screen navigation. The CineMaster DVD decoder board series has been setting the standard for DVD functionality and performance since the product's release in spring of 1996. Today, hundreds of CineMaster boards are being used by content developers to author their DVD titles. CineMaster fully supports the MCI command set being used in today's games, which provides consumers with the widest possible content compatibility with game titles in existence and in development today. It was one of the first DVD decoders to implement universal disk format (UDF) for complete playback of large capacity (greater than 4 gigabyte) DVD-ROM titles, which strengthens CineMaster'sTM content compatibility even more. It is one of only a few DVD decoder boards that incorporate Video-Out for playing digital video movies directly to the television. The CineMasterTM DVD decoder board also enjoys the distinction of being the first decoder board in the world to receive required Macrovision copy protection certification -------------------------------------- So, what do you all think? I think we have a winner with Quadrant & IBM! Jp
