Today I went for a job interview at a local Santa Barbara company, Typhoon Software, which has developed new voice dictation software through the use of Russian programmers, mostly cast-offs from the Cold War. They use IBM's core technology (which they license) but have spruced up the applications for Word and Wordperfect. I have two observations:

1. Typhoon's product (just three weeks old) blew my mind: it worked flawlessly using normal conversation with virtually no errors and works up to 200 WPM. This seems to leave in the dust the offerings from Dragon and IBM and I can see this thing being used almost without limit. By the way Typhoon is not public yet.

2. It seemed to work fine with a 266 PMMX and is claimed to function with only a 166 PMMX. The CEO told me there was little advantage in
using a PII though there might be some improvement. Those who are looking for a killer app. for the PII may have to wait though it should have effect on the owners of older pentiums.
