Does anyone know in general what the approximate cap.exp spending for this industry
is as a group? It would seem to me that if we can detect a marked reduction in the
cap.exp. spending from last year then capacity and supply must
be coming in line. Of course new competitors are always a pain and those located
overseas have perhaps financials that are trickier to locate but nevertheless it seems to
me that a cap.exp vs. Gigs or some such measure of unit volume would be interesting to
benchmark. If no one has it I might check into it. Looking at the SEG 12 month run-rate
for cap-exp it appears to have dropped off the proverbial cliff recently.

In a capital intensive industry if there is a sharp reduction in cap.exp you can bet your bottom dollar that drive ASPs are about to stabilize n/t and i/t the bottom has been reached.

(also put the same on QNTM thread - figured this would be the better place)

Shane.

Alan;
<<Under "computer activities" I hope that Maxtor is included.>>

What I was saying is that Maxtor is specifically excluded from any consideration of sale by Hyundai for now. Hyundai is exiting the PC business. As well they should. They are way down the list that comprises the "Other" category on anyone's pie chart.

Best,
Stitch
