I see that my posts have confused some people. This leads me
to believe that my memory is not as good as it was. I need to
recheck some facts before I post again. I'm an ex-employee but
have no inside track. I left in the mid-eighties. I still have
people I know their but we usually just discuss old times and
what UTEK is up to now and then. I'm probably less informed
(most likely) than most people on this board. Ultratech was
looking at DUV even back then. Everyone was. They hired an
optics guru (I forget his name but he was world renowned) from
P/E. It didn't pan out then but a lot has changed. I'll be
back when I know what I'm talking about. Still love the stock.

Justa and ALL: RE: NASDAQ Short Interest at April 15 for UTEK>

This week's Barrons reports the following short interest for UTEK:

At April 15 = 3,643,770 shares short (-16%) vs. 4,361,600 shares short at 3/15. With reported average daily volume of 301,408 shares, that's 12.1 days to cover, down from last month's high teens number.

Looks like short covering this past month has been a strong factor in causing UTEK's share price to rise to current levels in the face of the poor earnings report last week. Can't blame them for covering at this point given the possible upcoming acquisition, together with the prospects for improved earnings for 1999 and forward.

More info: ISI has two divisions, ISI Lithography and IS International. Spun-off from General Signal in 1993. Details at semiequip.com, an older web site than the one Justa found. From www.civicpride.com--

Contact Info:
Ellery Buchanan, President
Phone: 512-719-1600
E-Mail: buchanan@austin.insol.com

At the civicpride site, ISI describes their privately-held business as :"State of the art lithography equipment, pre-owned semiconductor equipment, surplus OEM (new) spare parts, semiconductor fab installations. " They say they do $50-$100 million/year in sales, have 50 employees in Austin, 350 worldwide at 20 plus locations-- but that may have changed since their last civicpride update.
