Glenn, to compare Amazon with the Home shopping Network misses a dramatic difference. The Home shopping network sells specific items, Amazon gives the public what they are looking for. Big, big difference. Another small small point. Is the Home shopping network gone today?? No, they have found their niche, just as Amazon has and will continue to. I'll tell you a story which to me describes the value of Amazon.com. About a year ago a good friend of mine was curious about the Internet and what it could do, so they asked me to show them. I eventually got around to the Amazon site. They were intrigued, and wondered if Amazon could find a book which their family had been looking for on and off for a few decades in used book stores. I said, gee, I don't know and proceeded to try. Amazon came back with a note which said we do not have this book presently but we will inform you when we locate it. About three weeks went by and I received an email describing the book, and what it would cost. My friends family were overjoyed and astonished. This little story, which I'm sure has now been repeated to varying degrees with thousands of other people, is one of the unique strengths of Amazon.com. By hooking their database into thousands of mom and pop type stores they can provide this service easily. You could say these friends could have used this route or that route to obtain the book. The fact is Amazon.com does all this work for you, and with only a few clicks. I expect the old books of the world will see a dramatic resurrection as the world realizes the ease of locating them once again. Michael
