<<Why do they believe the stock will come back to them before they get buried? I can only speculate, as follows-
A- They believe there will be no announcement prior to the beginning of the conference May 1.>>

Nah. To play this for a specific date makes no sense to me, nor, I bet, to most shorts or longs. No announcment before Friday means the stock collapses even if there's a positive announcement on, say, a week from Tuesday? Doesn't wash. And keep in mind that in order to make money or protect themselves from greater loss, the shorts naturally have to buy back in. And the huge volume that they'd have to buy wouldn't exactly make for easy covering. Consider this: The 30-day average volume is 300,000 shares daily. That's about 150,000 actual shares because Nasdaq trades are usually counted twice. There are 2,600,000 actual shares short. That's 17 days average daily trading!
They could have a liquidity problem that'd make a serious bladder infection seem like a walk in the park.
And I hope that Skipard's gloomy pessimism doesn't get anyone down.
