Excellent post, Zeuspaul!. I'm not worried about a thing.

As you said, Go2net's 33 million dollar investment in the SI community could vanish into thin air if we found a nicer place to hangout.

I would add, the new owners wouldn't dare risk offending 100,000 investors and traders who might decide to short GNET, just to strike back.

SI will continue to improve, all the fretting will have been for naught.

Well spoken on all points. I couldn't agree more.

Insofar as grandfathering, I think that it has been made crystal clear that it will occur for the core SI services. However, I do not think it is reasonable for anyone to expect significant value-added services simply because they are a SI member, paid or otherwise.

In one of my conversations with Paul Phillips (CTO at go2net), he expressed some urgency to make the search function more functional. This is a great example of how additional resources (hardware and programming talent) can help us. It's a safe bet that this will be one of the first major enhancements you'll see.

I assume that they are reading these responses and I think you said that very very well. The points about grand-fathering people in and leaving the format alone are very good. It would be easy to ruin this as it is quite good as it is. Ads would ruin it. Charging people who are already on for free would ruin it. Raising the fees would ruin it. They need to be very careful or it could evaporate. Internet usage is like that..it is in thin air..and so can evaporate into itself pretty fast.

Your entire discussion reflects my sentiments...

We have a perfect site here at SI, if it changed radically it might not be so useful.

Blinking banner ads would be horrible, imo. It would make me want to start another "SI" myself. They take time to load, they are distracting, they take up memory. It takes long enough as it is to "refresh" sometimes.

I believe there is a great deal of value received for the cost of the membership paid here at SI.

Lukers are indeed valuable, posting should only be for those who wish.

Extremely hostile and gross posters should be removed and currently is managed rather well once the members complain sufficiently.

If go2net leaves SI well enough alone, all will be well. If they choose to jazz it up, or think it can be made better, I am sure another site will be provided and we will simply move there.

I have the utmost respect for Jill, her timely responses, the design of the site, etc. I have not gotten to know Brad or Jeff, so cannot comment.

The only filing capability that I would like to add to SI is the ability to "archive" messages in the profiles. Right now the storage is limited and therefore I cannot reach back, under a particular person's profile, and try to find something that I remember them posting way back when, but have no idea which subject it was under, nor can I follow from the beginning, a particular person's actions, posts, philosophies, etc.

I agree that I would like to hear from go2net as to their intentions in order to affirm or allay the uneasiness of the community.

My business sense tells me that no business can be "sold" or transferred without being subject to its existing agreements, therefore I would presume that my paid for membership will continue to be in full force and effect until its expiration date. Those who might be here on a "free" basis I am sure would welcome a comment about "grandfathering" that relationship.

If one had to pay, or pay more than I paid ($70), for the following year, it would be worth it, for me.

The homepage has been getting more and more useful and I trust the effort to serve this community will be continued by go2net.

I am feeling a little anxious, and hoping for a continuation of the quality which we currently have here.

...and yes, add go2net to the spellchecker. :)
