David, RE: General Gates
He has to be one of the best generals, since the Art of War was written.

I agree with the sentiment, but would amend it to the best US general since George Patton and his 7th Army. Bill turned MSFT on a dime to attack the Internet, as Patton turned his army to save Bastion (sp?) in the battle of the bulge. Sun Tzu would be proud.

Chris

PS Bill is a hell of a campaigner! Niccolo Machiavelli (The Prince) would also be proud of Bill's amoral shark-like organization.

To All MSFT Longs,

I admire your grit and tenacity in the face of adversity. Yes, Bill Gates is the 2nd coming of Machievelli, MSFT is the 800 lb gorilla of tech, in the long run will prevail over all its rivals including Janet Reno.

In the short term, however, you really need to read the charts and do a little TA and a little FA. MSFT management has been telling you that the reason they have not bought back shares recently is because the stock is overvalued at this juncture. This is not the usual understatement or reverse hype usually thrown out there by Gates Inc.

EVERY daily and weekly technical indicator I read is short term negative. The current news stinks. Earnings are out and nobody was impressed because the company foretold the numbers. They are still warning of slowing growth, Japan is still in the crapper and will get much worse on the consumer level unless some REAL economic stimulus happens soon - not likely.

So, if you are strictly a long term investor, forget the noise as MSFT is a core holding for any portfolio. As a trader, though, I believe that in the next week or so this stock will fall considerably further and I am playing it that way. Fifteen minutes before earnings were released on Wednesday, I bought May 95 puts because the 4 point run up that day made absolutely no sense. The stock was at a frothy 98 7/8 at the time. Things have turned ugly since then.

Don't let the long term positives cloud your short term judgement. MSFT is in a correction.

Best of luck to all.
