Nice come back, is that all you can say. The only reason I carry on this worthless dialog with you is I am in the office today. Usually I am on the golf course. What is your excuse?.

Guidelines proposed for Japan's set-top boxes

By Yoshiko Hara
TOKYO - A special working group has outlined the desirable form
of set-top boxes for digital-TV broadcasting in Japan. And the
group has forecast that the Japanese market for such set-tops will
grow to about $13 billion in 2005 and to $24.6 billion in 2010.

The working group has been studying digital receivers for
digital-TV broadcasting under the Study Committee of DTV since
last December. It submitted a report to the parent committee last
week.

The Study Committee of DTV, consisting of influential figures in
industry and academic society, was formed by the Ministry of Posts
and Telecommunications (MPT) last June as an advisory committee
to discuss the smooth introduction of digital terrestrial broadcasting.

The committee is scheduled to make an interim report in June,
which will be based principally on the working group's report about
receivers.

The working group positioned digital-TV receivers as part of a home
multimedia center which will be capable of handling all media-not
just digital TV, but also communications and other media.
