Hi Christine, Apparently Advantage kills fleas within 24 hours just by contact. Because they are constantly roaming around they eventually get some on themselves. Fleas are constantly jumping on and off of cats, so chances are that all of them will end up on the cat. If they don't they will starve. By putting the drop on the skin between the shoulder blades and giving it a bitter taste, it minimizes licking it off. It is not recommended for cats under 4 months.

I think that the risk of disease, tapeworm, dermatitis and anemia are greater than the risk of the product. Don't forget that those boogers like to bite us sometimes and they are disease spreaders. I have seen people around here that have their legs all chewed up. One person that I know has gotten rid of the flea problem after having a horrible infestation for years.
