Bonnie -- thanks for the advice about buying a home, but I don't feel like doing that just yet, for the following reasons:

(1) I'm a young single guy in an expensive housing market (Orange County, CA -- I work in Irvine) and about all I could afford here is a condo/townhome.

(2) I figure that after the market crash occurs and unemployment soars, I will be able to buy a place at a much lower price from someone who is desperate to sell.

(3) Owning a house is not a very liquid investment. I'm thinking about whether or not I want to stay here in southern California or if I even want to stay in the U.S. and a house would tie me down if I bought one now.
