Not knowing the policies of sell-on-close orders and how they affect the bid/ask pricing needs clarification, but the quantity of sell-on-close orders (if in fact that's what they were) had to be known in advance by the MM's, and assuming all of the above to be true, then why wouldn't the MM's take the price down on close to add inventory at a lower price, assuming the presumption of a stronger open Monday ?

Hmmmm . . .
